YOUTHFUL OFFENDER RESOURCE NETWORK
The Youthful Offender Resource Network (YORN) is a project of Pacific Youth Correctional
Ministries (PYCM) and a ministry of Chaplain Charlie Corum.
Providing opportunities and activities for Christian churches, ministries organizations, businesses
and individuals, who are independent and autonomous, to work together to provide services
to youth in the DJJ, LACDP and other County Probation Deparments
Charlie started in youth correctional ministry at the Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility (CYA) in
Whittier, California in 1991. He joined PYCM in 1995 as a institution and parole resource chaplain. Charlie
expanded his parole resource ministry to the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility in 2002. In 2003, he
extended the ministry to the Heman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility in Chino and the Southern
Youth Correctional Reception Center and Clinic in Norwalk. In 2006, Chapalin Charlie organized YORN
to network with other Christians to provide ministry and services to youthful offenders. In 2008, the Lord
opened doors in the Los Angeles County Department of Probation (LACDP) at the Dorothy Kirby
Center in Commerce and by 2009 to four other LACDP facilities. In 2012, YORN is praying and preparing as
it reaches out into other counties in southern California.
YORN prepares wards and connects youthful offenders on parole or probation with organizations, agencies,
and individuals that can help with residential, personal, educational, vocational, social, and spiritual
goals. Services are available by either of two ways; through ministry volunteers inside and/or outside an
institution, or through this website (see, Services page).

SCRIPTURAL REFERENCES (NIV)
Genesis 39: 20 - 23 . . . (20) But while Joseph was in prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him
kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
Isaiah 61: 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good
news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and
release from darkness for the prisoners.
Matthew 9: 36 - 38 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed
and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the
workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'
Matthew 25: 35, 36 I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick
and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Philippians 1: 12 - 14 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served
to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to
everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains (imprisonment) , most of the brothers
in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
Hebrews 13: 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are
mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS AND YOU WILL BE SAVED
One night, about 2000 years ago, a jailer in Philippi asked a prisoner named Paul the most important question
one could ever ask. "What must I do to be saved?" Paul and his friend and fellow prisoner Silas were
Christians. Their answer to the prison guard was simple and to the point. "Believe in the Lord Jesus and
you will be saved." Before the night was over, the jailer and his whole family "had come to believe in God."
(Acts 16: 25-34)
The Bible teaches us that God is holy (1 Peter 1: 15, 16). Mankind is sinful and separated from God
because of sin (Isaiah 59: 1, 2; Romans 3:23). Sin separates us, both, from fellowship with God in this life
(spiritual death) and separates us from God forever when we die (eternal death). Yes, "the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6: 23). God loved the world so
much that he made a provision so we would not perish in our sin (John 3: 16). He sent his only Son to pay for
the penalty of sin by dying on a cross (1 Timothy 1: 15). By believing in him, we have redemption through his
blood, the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1: 7).
When one believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, as the Philippian jailer did, he or she is saved from the penalty for
sin and receives eternal life as a gift. Believing is trusting Jesus as the only one who can save you. We can
not do any good work to be saved and no one else can do anything for us to save us (John 1: 12, 13).
Salvation is a free gift of God so that no one can boast in heaven. When a person believes in Jesus, he or
she is filled with the Holy Spirit and becomes a new creation (2 Corinthians 5: 17). With the help of the Holy
Spirit, we can now do good works which God has prepared for us beforehand to walk in (Ephesians 2: 8-10).
Have you come to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Have you realized that you are a sinner who is
separated from God? Have you put your trust in Jesus to make you right with God? Have you trusted him to
be not only your Savior but also your Lord (master)? If you have, then, "just as you received Christ Jesus
as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him," (Colossians 2: 6, 7). Grow as a Christian by
learning God's Word, the Bible, (Psalm 119: 9-11), talking to the Lord daily in prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:
17), fellowshipping with God's people regularly (Hebrews 10: 24, 25), and being a witness of God's love to
others with your words and actions (Acts 1: 8). And remember, "let nothing move you. Always give
yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" (1
Corinthians 15: 58). May we work together as we "wait for the blessed hope - the glorious appearing of our
great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify
for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good" (Titus 2: 13, 14).
